We are looking for up to 40 Event Makers who will work with the events team across all aspects of the programme; supporting shows and the Torchlight Procession, raising awareness of the programme as the day unfolds, liaising with artists and audiences, helping with evaluation and creating content for our social media channels.
Encounter Festival will have a ‘Festival Village’ this year, centering on the Flag Market but with activity on Birley Street, Harris Street and also within the Guild Lounge. Event Makers will be split across all areas – as well as the ‘backstage area’ within the Guild Hall - based on roles and your preferences.
There will be induction briefings during the week of Monday 15th September, where you will receive further details of the event. If you are unable to attend an induction, we will make sure you have all the necessary details regardless.
Refreshments will be available for all volunteer shifts. Travel expenses up to £10 per volunteer will be reimbursed upon submission of receipts or tickets. Lunch/dinner/food will be provided along with plenty off opportunities to take breaks and keep hydrated in the Guild Hall.
What's involved?
We are asking Event Makers to commit to these shifts:
Sat 20th – 10.30 – 16.30
Sat 20th – 13.30 – 19.00
Sat 20th – 16.30 – 22.00 (this slot will have less opportunities to stay seated with a focus on assisting with the Torchlight Procession)
Tasks included will be:
Providing audiences with guidance and information.
Welcoming artists and participants, showing them to their dressing rooms and performance venues.
Handing out programmes
Supporting performances and other activities
Seeking feedback from audiences
Supporting set up and take down of some of the festival stalls
Supporting the Torchlight Procession
Some activities, e.g. welcoming artists and participants to the backstage area, can be done mostly or entirely seated so volunteering at Encounter doesn’t necessarily mean being on your feet all day!
Why get involved?
You will be supporting one of Preston City’s biggest arts events of the year. There will be a chance to see a whole range of exciting performances and activities and to help the day (and night!) run as smoothly as possible.
You will discover Preston artists and initiatives you may not have known before as Encounter is committed to supporting local artists.
You will gain event management experience and get insight into the behind the scenes activity of a busy outdoor festival.
How to get involved?
Accept the challenge
From there, a member of Encounter's Event Management team will be in contact with you to confirm your attendance along with which time slot you'd like and with details of the inductions.
Attend the induction on the week begining 15th September to get clued up on your role and fill out important forms.
