This will be a new project based at the City Church in Preston, at the St Thomas' Centre, Lancaster Road North, Preston, PR1 2SQ. We have been approached by Phil Maltby who is the Senior Pastor there and he is very keen to be in partnership with the Harris.
The project will be working with a large social group of about 30 adults.
Your roles will be sociable, creative and regular. The group at the church are go to the centre to connect to others - they sometimes do crafty things, play cards, do jigsaws etc.
Your role will be to get to know the group and see what kinds of creative things you could do with them as a Harris volunteer.
We think a small team of 4 volunteers will be plenty but once you go to the Church, you might think we could do with a couple more and that is fine.
What's involved?
In the first place, come along to an informal meeting with Dawn and Kyra and have a chat.
Then we will take you down to the church to meet the pastor and the group.
Then you can arrange with the pastor a couple more visits to the group to get to know them and find out what they would like to do.
Maybe something as a lead up to Easter could be a good starting point.
We dont really know how long this project will last for but it could last through the year, or you might think a couple of months is enough and we can do a call out for a new team of volunteers after that.
All to be decided with you!
Why get involved?
It will be a nice little project to be involved in, very sociable and friendly.
You will be helping the Harris to get out and about into the community.
It will be creative so will get your creative juices going.
You will improve your self confidence.
You will meet and get to know other Harris volunteers and a big new group!
How to get involved?
Accept this challenge and come along to our informal meeting. No pressure if you dont think it is for you after our informal meeting.
