Training and self development

Thank you for your interest in the challenge. We've already filled all our volunteer spaces for this challenge but please take a look at our other challenges.

Training session Saturday 22nd June 2024, 10am-1pm. Preparation for moving back in to the Harris

This session will be: "Introduction to Collections Care"

It will be delivered by: Jenny Truran who is the Conservation Officer (Social History and Decorative Arts) for Lancashire County Council.

The session will take place at Lancashire Conservation Studios, which is just behind the Museum of Lancashire, on St Mary's Street - in fact it is inside St Mary's Church (see pic below). It will be on Saturday 22nd June at 10am until 1pm. There is plenty of parking outside if you are coming by car. Otherwise it is about a 10 minute walk along Church Street from the town centre, nipping through the driveway of the Museum of Lancashire.

You don’t need to have taken part in any other of our preparation sessions to come along to this one, but ideally you will come to more than one.

We are aiming to hold training and awareness raising sessions related to preparation for moving back into the Harris, every month. We will rerun sessions later in the year so don’t worry if you don’t get on to this first series if they are full.

What's involved?

Jenny will spend time with us giving us a introduction to assessing conditions and that could be the condition of the object/artwork or the condition of the environment that the object/artwork is in. The objects will range in material and will include:

Jenny will speak to us about object handling, collections care, packing, environmental conditions, condition checking, temperature, humidity, light and ......pests!

She will offer us more training once we move into the Harris where she will focus on Glass and Silver.

Why get involved?

It will feel good to be part of the discussions and plans for moving back into the Harris.

It will be great to work with Jenny - she is really nice.

It will equip you with a bit of extra confidence to be able to help out with the move back in to the Harris.

How to get involved?

Accept the challenge and pop along!
