Interesting things that are being run by you!

Thank you for your interest in the challenge. We've already filled all our volunteer spaces for this challenge but please take a look at our other challenges.

Harris Highlights team

Join our established Harris Highlights Team! We want to expand the team with extra volunteers who are motivated to create and deliver tours about subjects YOU are passionate about. This team encourages you to share your personal insights into the Harris' collections - you won't find any set scripts created by someone else here! These talks should be unique to you.

The regular slots of the Harris Highlights talks are:

  • Second Thursday of each month (30 minute talk)
  • Last Sunday of each month (45 minute tour)

You can choose how long you want your talk or tour to be. You can talk about one thing the whole time, or you can take visitors around multiple things around the building.

Here are some examples of upcoming Harris Highlights talks:

Harris Highlights - The Battle of Preston 1648 - The Harris

Harris Highlights: The John Weld Collection with Harris Volunteer Ann - The Harris

Harris Highlights: Why War? - The Harris

What's involved?

  • Researching a subject, object, time period, movement, artwork, piece of architecture or history that you can see in the Harris that you are fascinated by and want to share with others. Your research time will count as volunteering hours so you should make a note of these.
  • You'll deliver a tour/talk of your choice either by yourself or with another volunteer every few months.
  • We have an optional team meeting once every couple months 3:30-5pm. The team use these meetings to touch base with one another, find out how everyone is getting on either with their research or with their tours and give each other support, advice and feedback. The team have often done practice run-throughs for each other as well to build confidence and receive constructive peer feedback.

Why get involved?

  • Get stuck into some research - you might find out something the Harris doesn't know!
  • Develop your confidence
  • Meet interesting people and join a team of like-minded volunteers
  • Share your passions
  • Add variety to our public programme
