Be part of Khaled's Creative team! Thursday 14th August

Cutting out session 2: Thursday 14th August 12:15 - 4pm

We are looking for volunteers for two cutting-out sessions for Egyptian Artist Khaled Hafez – Visual Artist who some of you might have virtually met already. For those of you that don’t know, he is the artist that the Harris has selected for the Imperial War Museum partnership project IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund Artist | The Harris. His work will be displayed at the Harris from reopening on the 28th September!

For a closer look at Khaled's work, visit his website: Home – Khaled Hafez

Khaled wants you to be involved in the work he creates for the commission, a part of his Creative Team. This session is on Thursday 14th of August from 12.30 pm until 4pm at the Preston City Council Town Hall. Please arrive at 12:15 ready to start promptly at 12:30. Khaled will be there virtually to answer any questions and reintroduce the project before we get stuck in! We should later be doing an installation session, September date tbc!

Snacks and hot drinks provided, all you need to bring is the atmosphere!

Note: please don't accept this challenge if I have already emailed you the dates, your place has been reserved, thank you.

What's involved?

You'll be using Khaled's detailed stencils of boats, planes, soldiers and war-related imagery to draw around onto brown paper. Then you'll be cutting your drawn shapes out very carefully to Khaled's instructions. These cut-outs will be used in Khaled's installation, pasted onto the walls of the Harris up the stairs.

Why get involved?

  • Get creative
  • Work with a professional contemporary artist
  • Enjoy a chance to do something with your hands whilst getting to know fellow volunteers
  • Be involved with creating an iconic contemporary art piece with your handiwork being featured on the Harris' walls! You can say "I helped create that!"

How to get involved?

1. Make sure you're happy with your availability on the date (Thursday 14th August 12:15-4pm)

2. Accept the challenge

3. Write the date in your diary and come along to Preston Town Hall!
